Movie Review by Samarle Ong:
Jodhaa Akbar is one of my favortie Hindi films. Set in the sixteenth century it’s practically like a Hindu version of Romeo and Juliet (as the movie portrays it, that is). Rajput princess Jodhaa is essentially forced into a political marriage with the Mughal Emperor Akbar. Thus from the beginnings of a love-hate relationship an epic tale is spun before the audiences’ eyes, one that surpasses prejudice and ethnicity.
Although the movie has it’s historical inaccuracies, such as the movie portrays history as if Emperor Ahkbar only had Jodhaa as his Queen when in reality the Queen for which he built the Taj Mahal was actually another woman who was one of many amongst his harem; the movie is great for those who love a light hearted, warm, butterfiles in your tummy, Jane Austin type romance film. Oh and we can’t forget the musicals. The oh so numerous musicals that have become a trade mark of the Hindu film industry.
I highly recommend the song "Jashn-E-Bahaaraa" it is probably one of the most romantic and musically appealing songs in the film’s OST. Over all I’m quite statisfied with the film for it’s entertainment aspects.
